Our sweet baby boy is already {ONE MONTH} old! I can hardly believe how fast time is passing. It seems like just yesterday we were being rushed in for our c-section to meet our little man. Here are some fun facts and updates on Mr. Deacon and what he has been up to this past month.
{STATS} 3/2/17
Weight: 7 pounds, 12 ounces (say what?!?), 8th percentile
Length: 20 1/2 inches long, 10th percentile
Head Circumference: 13 1/2 inches around, 8th percentile
{EATS}
Our growing boy has been EBF (exclusively breastfed) since day 1. As I’ve said before, he latched great from the first time we tried to breastfeed in the OR and he has continued to do so well. He eats every 2-2 1/2 hours around the clock, so we aren’t getting a whole lot of sleep around these parts. It usually takes him about 15-20 minutes to nurse and has to be kept upright and burped for about 15 minutes after each feeding as he spits up A LOT. The doctor says this is totally normal (spitting up usually peaks at 2-4 weeks) and should improve over time. Luckily it doesn’t seem to cause him any discomfort, so we don’t think it’s “reflux” at all. We introduced a bottle for the first time this past week VIA Eric and Deacon did a great job taking it. This might mean a date night in the near future for me and the Farmer!
{CLOTHES}
Deacon is still in newborn diapers and recently moved up into newborn clothes. His preemie clothes from a couple of sweet friends and our moms were the biggest lifesaver as he was in them for a few weeks. I forget how fun it is to watch them change clothing sizes and get new outfits.
{SCHEDULE}
Just this past week I’ve been (trying to) keep Deacon on a bit of a schedule of eat-play (awake)-sleep during the day. He does pretty good with this and is starting to be awake more often, which is so fun! I’m hoping in the next week or two to try and start working on a “bedtime routine,” and hopefully see him go a little bit longer in between his middle of the night feedings.
{FIRSTS}
Mr. Deacon has done a lot in his first month of life 🙂 First time…. to church, Bible study, Mom’s Group, the park, out to eat, Hammie visited, a few trips to Mendards…. all kinds of fun family stuff. He just fits right in and accompanies us in his car seat with his noise maker in tow. He does great in the van (unlike our girls did at this age) so going places isn’t as stressful as I thought it would be.
{LIKES}
Deacon loves to eat 🙂 nap in his swing, and be held on our chests. He likes to be swaddled at night with his hands up tight by his face and loves to be lulled to sleep by the vibrator on the bed of his pack-n-play, along with the nature/bird noisemaker. Unlike the girls, he likes to have his hands covered with mitts or fold-over long-sleeved shirts. He seems to enjoy tummy time and is starting to show some head strength and control. Bath time is definitely a good thing for him! He loves to have his hair scrubbed and the warm water poured over him. Big sisters enjoy helping with bath time, too 🙂
{DISLIKES}
Our little guy is pretty content and doesn’t cry a whole lot (yet!). Having a diaper change before being fed usually makes him a little cranky and so does having his big sister Andi scream in his face how cute he is 😉 He is also trying to figure out what it feels like to take a poop; he tends to grunt and cry a little sometimes when he poops. Our pediatrician assured us that it’s a “learned feeling” that he is trying to understand and should pass soon.
What a joy our little Deacon has been to us this past month. I’m looking forward to what his second month of life has in store… hopefully longer stretches of sleep at night and a few smiles and coos!
