Hey all! And welcome to Fall at the Farmhouse. I’m so glad that you stopped by. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Lauren. I live in rural Nebraska with my husband and two little girls. We farm corn and soybeans, so Fall is a busy time of the year for us. And yet, it’s the time of the year that makes our home feel the most alive. I love the way that the oranges, yellows and browns make our home feel. You can almost smell the crunchiness of the leaves and the pumpkin pie in the oven, you know?
My hope is that this gives you the itch to get out all of your Fall pretties and do something lovely and inviting in your home.
Something fall.
It just doesn’t feel right to start our tour out any other way than with Bernice, does it?
“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall….”
Most people only think about scarves, pumpkins, bonfires and cider when fall comes around, but stick a rooster in all of that good stuff, and that’s fall to me.
That and the smell of burlap and the hum of a combine.
“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
William Cullen Bryant
“It’s so strange that autumn is so beautiful; yet everything is dying.”
In our house, fall and Halloween are two very different things. But my oldest was so excited when she saw all of the Halloween decorations at the bottom of the bucket that she almost cried when I told her we couldn’t put them out just yet.
So… against everything I know to be true in my seasonal décor-structured mind, I put my Halloween decorations out early this year. But the way that my kids smile every time they walk past them makes me get over myself.
“I’d like to say a few words,
about The Great Pumpkin!”
Linus VanPelt
“Delicious autumn, my very soul is wedded to it,
and if I was a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns.”
George Elliot
“I never met a pumpkin I didn’t like.”
And as we close, sweet friends, perhaps the most important message of this post…
Pumpkin Spice all the things….
I truly hope you’ve enjoyed stepping into our farmhouse this fall, friends. I can’t wait to see you post your fall pictures and ideas!
