I love hearing how couples celebrate their anniversaries. Whether they go out for a fancy dinner, take a vacation, exchange gifts, whatever it is they do. I enjoy hearing how they celebrate their love in their own special way. It’s what makes couples and their marriages unique – and I’m so thankful for my marriage and the way we have celebrated these past 4 years. It’s not just a day to us – we celebrate all week!
Where do I even begin? To Eric and I, it’s all about the little things that make our week super special. I make all of his favorite foods through the week, we eat on our fine china at night for dinner, have special desserts after evening meals, just to name a few. Anything that we can do for each other to make our week more memorable or enjoyable, we do it. So this week, I have made Eric two of his most favorite dishes: his favorite chicken pot pie and stuffed shells with meat sauce. He loves those meals more than just about anything – and he loves taking ’em to work for leftovers the next day. We also had banana malts one night for dessert (Eric’s favorite), ice cream with M&M’s (my favorite) and the ever favorite drumsticks another night. And we ate everything out of our beautiful fine china ware. It was so special (insert corny sigh here).
Wednesday was our actual anniversary. Eric took the day off work and we just enjoyed being together. We slept in until 830 (thanks, Nora!), woke up and drank our Naked Juice (not to be confused with, “drinking our juice naked”) in bed, went for a walk, then took our time getting ready to head out to the Plaza for our favorite restraint of all time – Fogo de Chao. The last time we were there to celebrate was Eric’s birthday 2 years ago, the day we found out we were pregnant with Nora. Talk about coming full circle! We ate entirely too much and enjoyed watching Nora indulge in her first Fogo experience. She went wild and watched in awe when the waiters brought around the skewers of meat. She even had a little kiddie plate brought out for her, complete with whipped cream and assorted fruit in the design of a sunshine. She loved it. Our waitress said she had never seen such a small child eat so much – ‘atta girl!!

We went for a swim in the afternoon at a dear friends’ house who has been sweet enough to let us come over to introduce Nora to the wide world of water. She really enjoys being in the pool and it’s so fun watching her bumble around in her little floatie.
My folks watched Nora that night so that we could go out just the two of us. After the ups and downs the past few weeks with my health, it was really refreshing to have some time together to talk, reflect and have some time in prayer about our upcoming year. We went with “fine dinning” that night and hit up Quick Trip down the road from our house for Taquitos, hot dogs and slushies. Then we drove out to Heritage Park to eat one of our favorite meals together. Even though it was SO HOT out, we still enjoyed being outside. We sat on a park bench that overlooked the lake and watched the planes fly into the small airport just North of us. We took a stroll around the lake and walked of our “taquito comas” and came home to some cold drinks and “OZ – The Great and Powerful.” (I’m a total Wizard of Oz junkie, so it was right up my alley). It really was the perfect day 🙂
We are going out to see “Man of Steel” on Friday night, and to end our week, we are headed for some camping in Branson (not until next weekend, though), just the two of us. What a beautiful anniversary week this has been. So many special memories we made to kick off our 5th year of marriage. I am so excited to see what happens in our family this year.
Not to mention my Pandora bracelet grew by 2 new charms this week 🙂 Way to go, Eric!
